Situation

Prior to beginning its work with Axiom Consulting Group, LGFSF had developed a solid and sophisticated Business Continuity Program using its internal resources. The program was tactically oriented rather than being strategically focused, however. In addition, LGFSF executives wanted to ensure that the then-current plans met the needs of all of the company’s key business units and that the appropriate priorities were in place in order to yield the greatest value for the company’s BC Program investment. Although LGFSF possessed the necessary staff to continue to develop and refine the program in-house, company leadership believed that an outside consultant would provide a more objective view.

Solution

Recognizing that disasters and other such events are never going to conform exactly to the plans that have been created, Axiom helped LGFSF to focus on building an adaptable BC Toolkit rather than a set of fixed BC plans. With this approach in mind, the development team was able to step back and focus on planning strategically for the three key scenarios that mattered most to the company’s business units, thereby making the units more resilient to any potential type of adverse event. In addition, Axiom kept LGFSF staff from becoming trapped in unimportant program details of the kind that often slow down BC Program development, thus allowing the team to move far more quickly to its desired outcome.

Results

The LGFSF BC Program development effort was a profound success. In the words of the company’s Business Continuity Coordinator, the entire BC planning effort was “very structured and professional.” The LGFSF team also was “very comfortable” with putting the Axiom consultants in front of top LGFSF executives—a move that helped to speed along top-level buy-in. So successful did the new BC Program turn out to be, in fact, that LGFSF staff have been executing to the original BC Roadmap for the past 10 years, and Axiom’s original plans continue to be the basis of the LGFSF BC Program to this day.
